THE HERO'S JOURNEY

Group Coaching for Teens

happy group 1.jpg

Does your teen struggle with uncertainty about who they are, how they fit in, and their impact on others? Or... Are they confident, successful, and positioned to become a leader in their school, sports, or other activities?

Middle School and High School are strange times for teens and their parents.  Emotions run high. Drama escalates. School gets harder. Social structures change.

There’s a constant struggle between the desire for independence and the need for help and guidance from parents. It’s an incredible period of change.  In the last few years, we’ve added the stress of a pandemic, politics, and climate change.

Teens are feeling uncertain and disconnected. They have compromised self-esteem. They question the future, who they are, how they fit, and their impact on others because so much feels so far beyond their control.

And even after schools returned to "normal,” parents and teachers continued to see a gap – in learning and in social maturity – that teens are still struggling to catch up with.

The Hero's Journey group coaching programs provide a safe place for teens to come together, share their experiences, and explore ways to regain their confidence and sense of agency.

Some of the topics we will cover

  • What matters to you and how do you reflect that in your choices?

  • How do your daily choices impact your energy and how you interact with others?

  • How do you build confidence, resilience, and momentum for success?

  • Where do you put your focus, time, and energy? How do you choose when it's not always up to you?

  • How do you share your needs, boundaries, and emotions while keeping the other person in mind?

How does this benefit parents?

  • Feel more confident in your child’s potential to build a happy and successful future.

  • Someone to amplify your message.  Parents often tell me, “my child won’t take my advice, but they listen to you.” This is a huge relief to parents and they appreciate that I reaffirm what they’ve been trying to teach.

  • Feel more at ease as you watch your child become more independent and confident.

  • Help identify where they want to put their efforts and what they want to let go of.

Who is this for?

In-person (in the San Fernando and Conejo valleys of Los Angeles) and online groups for middle school or high school students form throughout the year. These groups are for:

  • Teens who are looking to connect, support, and encourage other teens.

  • Teens who want to grow into leaders on their teams, in the classroom, and in their communities.

  • Teens who know how to role model the way and have a sense that they want to contribute to the world around them.

  • Teens who are open-minded and are curious about how they came to see the world the way they see it and how to learn to understand other people’s points of view.

  • Teens who are motivated to make incremental changes in their lives to find long-term results.

Who is it NOT for?

This program isn’t for teens or parents looking for fast solutions to specific problems.  Change takes time.  Growth is a process.  Coaching is about developing resilience and strategies to overcome obstacles life throws at you.

As with everything, you get out what you put in.  Group members will have lots of opportunities to apply what we discuss each week. Showing up for about an hour and then ignoring what we learn the rest of the week won’t get anyone very far.

Your teen needs to be a willing participant in the group.  If you don’t have buy-in from them and they don’t want to be here, they won’t put in the effort to get anything out of it.

What’s included?

  • Depending on the program, groups will meet for either 6 or 12 weeks.

  • In-person sessions will be an hour long with time before and after to socialize. Online groups will be an hour long.  Everyone is encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible to get the most out of the program.

  • Regular check-ins with your coach via email or text (kids pick method and frequency) to help with accountability and specific goals between sessions

  • Small weekly projects to complete to integrate what we're learning

  • Accountability buddy

  • Access to online parent group including weekly check-ins for parents to let you know the general topic for the week; discussion questions, and direct access to your coach
